In big European tunnels tunnel-fires represent heavy risks for human beings, and they have also a big impact in terms of repair costs, economical exchanges.
For example the Mount Blanc tunnel which connects North and South Europe was closed for almost two years. We had extensive damage in the concrete elements and this because the direction of the fire was much longer as expected.
Then the temperature was much higher than those considered in standard codes.
