To our opinion the integrated water management for a suitable protection of the ground water regime in the Nakkavagu basin and its tributaries could look like this.
The water management concept consists of a threefold approach: the hydrological approach, the pollution reduction approach and the enhancing of public awareness.
First the hydro-geological approach: enhancement must be given of the functions of the alluvial layer and aquifer. Even within one year we could find out that this alluvial, that this aquifer has not only a storage function. It has a linking function, distributional function and a buffer function in connection with the draining system, with the surface drainage. It is an important sorption and ion exchange and therefore it has also filter function; then a construction of a cross flow barrier system along the Nakkavagu river could retent the fresh monsoon water, could increase the infiltration rate and improve the soil functions like the absorption and filtration.
The uncontrolled large scale sand mining activities should be stopped - we would say - immediately.
