Generally
emphasis has to be put on the importance of the alluvial aquifer for the
following functions which affect groundwater quality and quantity.
- The storage function with respect to irrigation water and domestic
water supply. It has a very good linking function between surface water
and aquifers. It has also a distributional function between different
water bodies in the aquifers. We found exchange by surface water to
the alluvial and also to the weathered granite and also down to the
fractured granite aquifers.
- The buffer function in the slow down of the monsoon rain water run
off is very important.
- The sorption, ion-exchange as well as the filter function for the
alluvial aquifer and for the adjacent and lower aquifers are also very
important.
