The earliest reference to head-mounted displays was a very trivial one, a very simple one, when a pattern was issued to somebody named Albert B. Pratt in 1916. And that was a very simple thing basically, images being displayed to a device that was close to the eyes, so nothing very sophisticated but in the helmet you have the display system.
