Now the claims the personal wireless communications are indicated here. The wireless communications has become a dominant mode of access technology in the next century, that is the century that has just started. And you know, more then 200 million wireless customers exist today, and the penetration is about 1 to 15% in different regions of the country. And besides voice, you now have messaging service and the data services. The mobility has to be similes and concept of communication anywhere, any time between any persons has become the requirement. The third generation systems based on the IMT 2000 international mobile telecommunications 2000 being developed by the ITU and the UMTS universal mobile telecommunication systems, developed by the Euro Telecommunication and Standards Agency, are becoming now available. The personal communication systems will really give us a personalised voice, data, image, video communication, in fact all services regardless of the location network and time, terminal and personal and the service mobility are being brought in, and all this will lead to what we call universal personal telecommunication UPT. In future, to take care of the bradband multimedia services, we will have wireless ATM, that is a wireless asynchronous transfer mode which will give us high speed wireless access. The technology challenges due to limitations of radio frequency, the radio spectrum , the bandwidth, radiowave propagation, size and weight, power and energy are being solved and will have to be solved further. The standardisation for the sake of global acceptance is a must and ITU and the European Agencies are playing a great role towards that.
