One of the important schemes which has been used in this recent time is the concept of turbo code using concatenation. In concatenation the block is segmented into a small k and a capital k blocks and one of them is treated as symbol the other is treated as just bits and one applies outer encoding as well as inner encoding for encoding of the entire scheme.
