One could say that analogous concept for block codes, which were applicable for block codes can be applied even for convolutional codes, but one has to modify some of the parameters like say, dmin should be modify as dfree. In general the values of "n" and "k" in the case of convolutional codes are much smaller than in the case of block codes and, just like in the case of block codes, convolutional codes can also be realised using LFSRs as shown.
