The general
guidelines for the purpose of performance evaluation are usually in terms
of the CPU utilisation, memory utilisation, cache-hit ratio, bus utilisation
particularly with reference to the network communication. The benchmarks
for typical super microcomputers are in terms of the "Specint"
and the "Specftp", that is for integer and floating point operations.
If you look at the kind of benchmarks that have been formulated for PCs, we have the micro benchmark, along with a couple of other benchmarks for the multimedia and other special applications are extensively used. Also the benchmarking is usually considered in terms of the millions of floating point operations or millions of instructions per second. Another indication of the capacity of a particular system is made in terms of the CPI or clock cycles for executing of one particular instruction. | ![]() |
