The most important
protocol is H. 323. It is a protocol to describe terminals, equipment and
services for multi-media communication over networks such as LAN, Internet
etc. which do not provide guaranteed quality of services. In such networks
we cannot assume a specific delay or throughput or error rate. For example, if we want to provide voice and video services over such networks, this standard has to be followed. This is a very important standard as it encompasses audio and video as well. For example how to send video over LAN? For video, we require 80 Mbits per second data rate if we assume 5 MHz bandwidth and 8 bits per sample. We can code the video using this standard to 64 Kbps and transmit over the LAN or the Internet. | ![]() |
