Artificial
intelligence has been for a long time a philosophical issue. Whether the
computer can be made intelligent or not has been discussed by philosophers,
mathematicians and computer scientists. There are lots of issues presently
debated.
- The first one is parallelism. Is human brain a parallel processor
or is it an uniprocessor? Still we do not know. Human beings can carry
out many activities in parallel and hence parallel architecture seems
the logical choice. However, Von Neumann architecture still prevailed.
- The other issue is distribution of control. Today most systems are
having centralised control whereas distributed control may help in modelling
some activities of the human being.
- Similarly, distribution of data is another problem.
- But the major issue is the programmability. Today we need to develop
mathematical models to develop intelligent computers.
