Some of the applications that need large computational power are: non linear analysis and spectral analysis, theoretical synchrotron, radio physics, mechanical engineering models, spin catalysis, weather forecasting, astrophysics studies etc. DNA analysis also requires heavy processing. High power systems are required to make research possible. The instance of working on high-end systems in Universities has increased and the processor evolution took place-from 100 instructions to the stage of tens of Gega flops to 100s of Tera flops.
