If you take into account the damping which is present in all real machines and especially in the oil film bearings of the machines which we are interested in, then you get this diagram in which the vibration amplitude in correspondence of the critical speed is lower if the damping increases. From the chart of the phase it is possible to note that it changes rapidly passing the critical speed
