A bank desiring to set up the data network shown in this figure hires an outside firm to design the hardware for the front end processor and system controller. In addition the firm is also contracted to develop the necessary software that run on both of these processors. Wishing to monitor their progress towards a failure intensity objective for the system controller software, the firm decides to use a software reliability model. They will collect failure interval data during system test. In practice the firm would also monitor the reliability of the front-end processor software.
