I just come to a numerical application. For this kind of mechanism we have
decided to maximise the angular speed of the camshaft, while we constrained
the flash temperature, the specific work of friction forces, the continuity of
contact between cam and follower, the technological feasibility of the cam
which refers to the profile curvature. The curvature of the profile has to be
obtained by grinding so the surface like the one I am showing you can be
obtained. Also the strength and the flexural stiffness of the camshaft has to
be limited in order to guarantee the contact of the cam with the rocket. So we
can see that this is actually a Multi-objective Programming problem.
